UI / UX : Meaning and Difference

UI - User Interface Design

UI Design or UI configuration for the most part alludes to the visual format of the components that a client (user) may communicate with in a site, or innovative item.

In Basic terms the user interface (UI) is the series of screens, pages, and visual elements that user uses to interact with a device.

It includes  -

  • Screens
  • Windows
  • Buttons
  • Text labels
  • Images
  • DropDown
  • Progress Bars
  • Sliders

      ...and other visual elements.

Softwares Used to create UI designs - Photoshop, Sketch, illustrator, InVision

UX - User Experience

User Experience, referred to as UX, is the Emotional response a person has to a service or product. The term user experience refers to every aspect of the user’s encounter with the product or service.

User Experience is largely centered on usability and other aspects such as the visual design of a product can play an important role. It  is often enhanced through the user interface of a product.

User Experience deals with Enhancement of User-Satisfaction.

UX Design is responsible for being hands on with the process of research, testing, development, content, and prototyping to test for quality results.

UX delivers -

  • Wireframes
  • Prototypes
  • StoryBoards

 - Basic difference -

UI - The way it looks                                         UX - The way it functions

View Point of UI/UX

UX design enhances the user interface for a brighter user experience.

A Simple Example -

Illustration above shows to User screens with similar UI designs, but one is said to have a good UX design than other.

If I simply look at them both are attractive.
But, when as a user I interact with them i feel the difference ...

The left device screen provides no information about the process progress , so if some process takes a long time a user may abort it (having no idea of the actual amount of process completed).
*This may be a good UX for tasks taking very short period of time

The right device screen provides  information about the process progress (percentage), so the user has complete information about the amount for process completed.

Conclusion -

UI and UX design are two  different terms  which when implemented together provide a good looking , functional and user-friendly interfaced application.
